New bike

Eldon's new bike was stolen sometime yesterday. We rode around Monday morning and after getting two kids in and hauling two bikes up and down stairs I left them outside our apartment door instead of putting them into our storage. I had used the money my mom had sent me for my birthday to buy Eldon and Lilly bikes and he really enjoyed it. Little kids bikes aren't that expensive and I know we can probably get him a new one next spring (or for Christmas), but I feel really sad about it.

We've been asking around and walking up and down the grassy area in the middle of our complex, hoping someone left it out there. The maintenance guys say they will look out for it. I just feel profoundly sad about it though (silly, huh?) and that's why I wanted to blog about it. I just don't understand why someone would steal a little boy's bike, especially from right outside our door. It makes me question my view on humanity and of course I will be more careful with our things, keeping everything locked up:(. I do know that more people than not would not steal something from a child, but it makes me sad about what people are capable of.

I told Eldon I was sad about it and he said, "but I don't want to be sad. I want to be happy.":) So, me too. I'm trying not to dwell:).

*After reading this post I realize how naive I sound. I really should have learned this lesson ages ago: if things are not locked up, they will eventually disappear, especially if the item is nice or new. I've had a few things stolen in the past, including all my clothes when I was in Paris! My friend had done my wash for me ('cause I didn't have access to a washing machine) and left it in a bag at the bottom of the stairs that led up to my apartment. By the time I got there they were gone.*

Not tired

This morning Eldon comes out of his room and says in an accusatory tone, "You're always putting me to bed when I'm not tired and I TELL you I'm not tired and you STILL put me in bed even."

We got flu shots this morning. I told Eldon that he was going to get a shot before we went. Mistake? I don't know but I just didn't want him to run in there not knowing what to expect. He was scared and tried to make a run for it. I had to chase him down pull down his pants and hold him on the table while he cried. He left the room limping (I think that was for show) and then says calmly, "I was really scared. When I'm big I wont be scared and I'll go and get shots all by myself." Then, he was fine.

Yesterday Eldon comes in the room and says, "You're not cool." (Don't know where he picked that phrase up). I turned to Lilly with a pout and said, "Lilly, am I cool?" Lilly says, "Not cool. Hot. Hot mama." I appreciated it:).

Kids say funny things and I don't usually write them down. These are a few from yesterday and today.

p.s. My wedding ring is gone. I left it on the bathroom counter when Eldon was taking a bath, Lilly was wandering around the house playing, and I was doing dishes. Who's your money on (who took it) and where should I look for it! I've looked all around the bathroom sink and cabinets.

Eldon's First Day of Preschool

Eldon's first day of preschool was today. We went to an Open House last week, but parents stayed then. Today Eldon went all by himself and did just fine. These were his words: "It was fine. I didn't get to stay very long though." It was 2.5 hours. He said he also played in the sand and the little house and sang songs. He showed me his star stamp on his hand. He also told me he drank his whole juice box at snack. I think he had a good time.

Lilly had a tough time though. She went running right in the classroom after Eldon and I had to carry her out kicking and screaming. When we got to the car I set her down and she made a dash for the building again. I told her, "where do you want to go? I'll take you anywhere." She wailed, "there!" and pointed at the building. She had a hard time when we picked Eldon up too. Lilly and I went to the mall (one of her most favorite places) and played with Jack to make up for it.
